First off, I ordered my repair manual, but I can't wait to screw something up so I want to do some simple preventative stuff. I just got an 9N with 8N engine- and it needs work. Used to start 'till I changed oil and hydro fluid. Now it won't even turn over. I don't think there could be any coorelation, so I'll replace the solenoid and regulator first. Been rainin' a good bit, so I figger 'sgotta be electric. Anywho, If I replace the wiring, must I use many differnet specific gauge wire, or can I get away with just maybe two sizes.

Thanks you guys. You make punks like me appreciate your wisdom, or at least busted knuckles...

Don't start throwing expensive parts at it blindly just uet. You'll have time to spend money later.

Unless the v-reg is completely fried.. it woun't prevent the starter from turning over.

How do you have the starter setup? Using a new switch and the oem starter solenoid.. or using the 9n built in starter switch behind the steering column.

Do some checks with your vom first..

I would buy a wiring harness. If you use the same color wire for everything you will have a tough time determining what wire is connected to what terminal. Trouble shooting would be almost impossible.

When you say it won't turn over, do you mean the starter doesn't even run? Do you get a click or nothing at all?

You might consider purchasing a complete new wiring harness for about $14.00 at your local TSC store, or perhaps from the sponsors of this web site.
