The throttle on my 8n will not stay in place because the ribs are wore smooth. You have to hold it with one hand and steer with the other, which gets old after awhile. Anyone know if this can be repaired or replaced?

Had the same problem.
I replaced the throttle plate, but... the problem was, actually, the spring on the bottom of the throttle rod. Mine was rusted so bad that qbout 1/4 of it was missing and what was there wasn't even springy. Replace it (part # 8N-9806) and you probably won't have to bother with the throttle plate...

My neighbor has a rather large magnet holding his throttle in place on the dashboard ( it works ) I almost cracked up when I saw it, I have to much work going for myself right now or I would fix it for him or tell him how to make the repair himself .

Tom H hit the nail on the head. New plate, and customize the lever. Took mine off and to the work bench. A little heat from a hand-held torch got the ball on the backside of the lever to move to a round spot. While still hot,I tapped the outside to "hold" the steel ball in place. Lever looks & works like new. Good luck. P B 13 in Al.

Check to see if you have the governor compensator spring in place also. This makes a difference whether the ball is wore smooth or not.

Like the others said.. replace the plate and adjust the spring.. could also braze or weld up some raised areas..

Check the locator ball too..

I got a replacememt plate from Just*N's and I also took a flat screwdriver to the backside of the lever to loosen up the steel ball to spin it a bit and tap it tight with a hammer. the steel ball on mine was darn near smooth with the lever but looks brand new now. I did streach my spring out a bit too for a little more tention.

You can get replacement throttle plates - I know just 8n's has them.
