Just bought a 9n that runs well, small sputter now and then, and does not appear to smoke out exhaust, but has a lot of white smoke coming from the crankcase breather. Hot or cold constant blow by.
Thanks in advance for any advice. Randy

Randy..... ..you really need about 2 hrs of running time to "steam-off" all the moisture by-products of combustion in your oilpan. Of course, unless you know the maintenance history of yer new-to-you 9N, its ALWAYS a good thing to change yer engine oil and filter. This will gitt-ridd of any and all accumulated contaminates. (thats a good thing to do) N's need heavier weight oil in summertime. 40wt detergent is fine. The important thing is to change yer engine every 200 hrs or once each fall.

I use 20-50wt oil year-round for my 8N, I get the 20wt effect for starting a cold engine and the 50wt effect for protecting my hot engine. And I have 35psi oilpressure..... ..Dell

I love the subject of oil.

I think Castrol has a parafin based 20w-50. I just bought a well worn diesel that starts out at 55 and after an hours mowing it was down to 5psig at idle. I put in some Mobil Delo 15w-40 and it came up to 15 the next time I did the test. Dumped that out and stuck in some HD 40. Pressure went to 20 at idle in the next and subsequent testing. Wonder if your pride would give me better pressure than the 40 single grade. I have the winter time consideration too and hate to chase the season from the crankcase.

Thanks,

Mark
