Help! While romoving my 9n head a stud broke in the block. Does counterclock wise remove it. I have tried an ease-out and it feels like it will break also. Tried channel locks and vise grips too. About 1 and 1/4" sticking up out of the block.
Thanks, Rick

Thanks for all the advice, BP, Smacking it, and a stud removing tool worked after soaking and working at it for a day or two. Got new stud and now waiting on Fedex to deliver the head.

If all that fails, fellow listmember Zane has recomended taking a nut and sliding or threading it down on the broke stud and then weld it on. Usually the heat of the welding helps break it loose anyway.. and the nut gives your wrench something to grab onto. Hint... put something over the deck of the block to protect it from slag and splatter when you weld the nut on.

Rapping on the end will help.

Do you turn the stud counterclockwise to remove it?

Sure. CCW.
Wack it square on the end a few times. Lay a broad tool on it so you don't make a glancing blow and wack it. It will come out.

Rick, if you have a choice between PB blaster or Kroil, get the Kroil. It's hands down the best I've ever seen. Comes from Kanolabs.com if you can't find it locally.

Don't use an easy-out if the stud is above the hole. Heat the stud and place a bee wax candle while hot on the base of the stud. Let cool. Also use Krorl or PB Blaster on the stud once or twice a day for a couple of days. Then use a small pipe wrench on the stud. It will turn out. Be patient.
