I now have a 51 8n that runs fine and does almost everything I need it to do...I run a 1 bottom plow , brush hog , disc etc...it seems the 8n will do all of this but sometimes I feel that I am right on the edge of available power and required power...I would like to try a 2 bottom plow and be able to brush hog some old stuff that has not been cut in awhile and a few other things that I think may be a bit too much for the 8n....I know the increase in power is about 7 HP from the 8n so my question is ....In practical experience would the Jubilee or 641 be a marginal increase in power or will I be holding on to my seat when I run either of these tractors to do what I am now doing with my 8n....I mention the Jubilee and 641 because an oppurtunity to look at both of these have come up....Appreciate any/all opinions...Thanks...Alan

I've always agreed with my friend from Colorado (tOTG), the Jube and 640 are twice the tractor of an 8N.

Hi Alan, The Jubilee was a transitional model, having design features from both the earlier N's and the later hundred series units. It sounds like you want a work tractor. That being the case I'd be looking at the 641. Not that there's anything wrong with the earlier tractors, all things being equal, a decent 641 is less likely to give you trouble than an either an N or a Jubilee in comparable condition. On the other side of the coin, there is considerably less collector intesest in the hundred series tractors. Good luck...Al English

I have a 1952 8N and use a 2-bottom plow with no problem.

The 8N is a two-bottom plow tractor, if the engine is in adequate shape (acceptable compression and in tune). No reason why it shouldn't pull a 2-bottom plow unless your soil conditions are so bad that it can't. You should be able to brush hog just about anything that you can knock down with your bumper. Quit babying it, and work that sucker..... ..big grin.

The 641 is a lot more tractor. More weight, hp, live hydraulics (but not live PTO), OHV engine, etc. If you really need to move up, then I'd opt for this one, if it was me. But, I'd keep my 8N and use it for some tasks and the 641 for the others.

fwiw..... ..Ed

From my experience, you will notice a real increase in power and ability with a Jubilee or 641 over an 8N. Also from experience, in average conditions with 2-14s on both a good 8N and a Jubilee, the two will plow wheel-turn for wheel-turn all day long, but the Jubilee will do it easier. The 134 engine is not only more powerful, it is also longer lived. The 641 has more hydraulic muscle. Mike-Iowa
