Tire Sealant ??????

Replaced my front tires this weekend with a pair of Goodyear 3-ribs. One wheel took $75 worth of welding (cracks in outer hub), the other was fine.
Want to use a sealant -- here in North Texas we have abundant mesquite with their 10-penny thorns.
I have used "Slime" successfully in our riding mower, golf-cart, ATV, blah, blah, blah. Bought some "Slime", but noticed for the first time that the label says for "tubeless" tires. Does this really matter? Is there something better I should be using? Did have foamed tires before, but tire shop says that's not necessary. Did I buy the wrong "Slime" ? -- What is everyone else using..? The thorns here are a real threat -- 1" or longer. RuintTX -'49 8N # 231880

Years ago, my dad did landscaping for a living. He always mowed the vacant lots for the contractors that he worked for. He always used heavy liners in his front tires and a product called Nevr-Leak. Occasionally he would have a tire go down, he would just roll it over 1/2 turn and air it back up. When that finally failed, he would replace the tubes. Sometimes they would have 15-20 holes in them when you checked them after removal. I just had a 19" front fixed and asked the tire company to put in sealant. They didn't and said that it wouldn't work on tube type tires. I have seen it work, and will probably get some sealant and put it in myself.

On slow moving vehicles, foaming the tires is an option. I don't know the cost.

After putting up with slow leakers on my 19's last fall, I split a can of Slime (I think - or some kind of sealant in a can) between both fronts following directions on the can and injecting it into the tubes. Except for using a full can/ tire. So far, so good. I've not needed to add air since then. YMMV. Touching wood. Steve 8NI69302

Ruint..... ...get a tire liner from Glemplers. virtually bullettproof.

OR..... .get some steel cord RADIAL TUBELESS tires.

OR..... .get some tubeless tractor tires so you can successfully slime 'em.

OR..... ..ya gotts them skinny 19"ers? Try and find some used motorcycle tires with steel cords. Not certain that they make 'em..... ...Dell

Ruint,

Can tell you my experience as we use slime in our motorcycle tires. Sometimes it works and sometimes it don't. Usually the don't is with the tube tire. Don't know exactly why that is but thats been my experience. Also if you want to make a tire repair man (or woman) mad, give them a tire that has slime in it. If you want to make em real mad tell them you want a tube fixed with slime in it....Most won't work on it.

Fill the tire with water and bentonite and if you get a thorn all you have to do is drive it a few yards and the bentonite stops the leak.
