I wanted to say thanks to all that helped me with my 1949 Ford 8N, my first tractor ever. I am truly a novice at mechanical work, but managed, with your help, to get it to start at all which it wouldn't do since the day after I bought it, to get the compression from around 90 on all 4 to around 105 on all 4, to get the oil pressure holding steady at 25 PSI when warm, to give it a complete tune-up, to adjust the timing and overall make it purr like a kitten. I've had it a month to the day, today and the first two weeks I spent asking myself "What have I done? $1800 down the drain!". I managed to see some progress the third week and this past week got her running like a champ. Total investment: $1,976.12 and about 40 hours of my time (not counting the time I spent reading this board). How else can you get a good running tractor for that meager sum if you don't do it yourself?

As soon as we get a thaw, we'll give her a new coat.

Thank you.

Got an older cousin that refers to the process and the end result as 'when she comes in'.
He has told me many stories about resurecting tractors that other folks can't, or won't, get going.
With a glint in his eye he will say, 'Nothing better than when she comes in'.

Great feeling, eh?

You sound like me about three years ago! My 1949 8-N was my first tractor, and this website and discussion board helped me as I was getting to know my new best friend. I have not had to do anything to my N since working out a few little bugs that it came with. All I do now is enjoy the heck out of it! Since aquiring my 8-N, I have also aquired three other old farm tractors. They are all nice tractors, but the little ford really stands out. Good luck to you.....Tom
