Hello! I have a 1947 Ford 8N. Currently, there is nothing off the front of the tractor, but I was wondering: Can you put a bucket on the front of one of these guys? That really is the only thing lacking on the little powerhorse....

Scott,
I have 50 8N with a Paulson, It runs off the PTO pump. Works good for small jobs. I need to chain down the 3 point lift arms to accomplish this but for as often as I use it this doesn't create a problem. I did end up taking off my headlights because occaisonally when using the loader if you catch or snag on something it will shift to the side and bang up the lights a little. I'm still working on a bracket to put my lights above the hood. shouldn't be a problem but haven't made it a priority yet. Good Luck, Mike

Scott..... ..yes, you can put a FrontEnd Loader on yer N-Tractor. Many have and find that it really loads the frontend down. Some are happy withitt, some take 'em backoff. Most FEL's are like pipe jungle-gyms, run off a front-pulley driven hydraulic pump. Iff'n ya buys a used one, make certain you get ALL THE BRACKETTS.

Only one company (Paulson) is now making a light-weight FEL powered by yer weaksister internal hydraulic pump. I'm notta fan of the jerry-rigging that ya gotta do to get the internal hydraulic power out. (ya gotta chain yer 3-point arms down to force the hydraulic power out the corner test port)

When I need loader work done, I rent a real loader tractor with power steering. I haven't rented a tractor in 14 years (grin)..... ....Dell

Although it is possible to attach a loader to the N, it is not a good idea for the most part. First there is no remote hydraulic connection, whereby you must tie down (and loose the use of) the rear lift arms to divert hydraulic pressure to the pump test port to raaise the loader bucket. Also, the front end is hard to turn and steer as a result of the extra weight. A final factor would be the related difficulty of even getting to the tractor seat since most require you to get on from the rear.

Are you referring to a front end loader? If so, yes you can add one. Check the archives for more info.
