9N oil in water

A friend of mine has the chance to buy a 9N with several implements for a pretty reasonable price. However, they said that it's putting oil in the water. Didn't say how bad, and we can't look at it till Tuesday or Wed. Is this a common occurance on 9N's? I'm not a Ford guy myself, but can fix most anything. I would hope it's just a bad headgasket, but am wanting a more learned opinion. What other things should I look for when we go back? Just worried that the oil thing could be a cracked block or head. Any thoughts?

Arron..... ....most "oily sheen" floating on top yer radiator water is "combustion by-products" forcing their way past a leaky headgasket. NO BIG THING. Blott-itt up with paper towels. Iff'n it bothers ya, replace yer headgaskett, $20 cheap..... ...Dell

Are you really pumping oil into the radiator.. or is there merely a skim of combustion by-products in the radiator. A bad headgasket WILL do that.. ( combustion byproducts.. etc.. in the water. ).. Sometimes you also get some oil/water emulsion in the crankcase as well.

Pull the radiator cap and start the engine.. if you get bubbles that is a sure sigen of compression loss.. possibly headgasket if you are lucky..., though there certaintly are other causes.

No easy outs on this one. On the "N" tractors the oil does not go up through the head or the head gasket.
