Are 9N/2N Hoods Hard toFind???

I just became aware of a 9N laying in tall grass behind a nearby Post Office. The owner is willing to part with it for $1000 and might possibly negotiate. It seems to be all there and mostly original, but it has the worst hood I've ever seen. You can pass your hand thru some of the rust holes. The question is how difficult will it be to find a clean original hood and what can I expect to pay for one? I have seen 8N hoods both on ebay and repros that don't look bad, but I don't ever remember seeing the 9N/2N version for sale. Any ideas from you would be greatly appreciated!!

I have a '46 2N hood in very reasonable/NOT perfect shape. $225.00 plus shipping from sunny California. I don't use UPS anymore so you get to pick who you trust with it. Also, some idiot cut the infamous side hole in this one too but, solid metal everywhere. SAVE the flip lid!!

I take it that it was UPS that lost those parts. I thought it might have been us mail.. they are very 'handy' with other people's goods as well.

Long time no see.

when I was looking for a complete hood assembly for my 9N I advertized in the classified on this site and a couple of others.... vintage sheet metal brought prices from $400 to $900. To do with new sheet metal the price was $425 to $625..
If you live in tractor country try going to some of the meets... there will be people there selling parts.. it is always easier to negotiate face to face... good luck.. if you get two sets let me know and I will buy one from you

I have thought about possibly replacing the hood on my 2N and ran into the same problem. If push comes to shove, you have two choices. The 8N hood with scrip, or the 8N hood without script. Unfortunately, both have the little door in the side for the air precleaner. I would go with the non-script variety and make a patch to cover up the hole and fill it in with BONDO or other filler. That should give you a good-as-stock replacement.

With fenders (while i'm at it), I have found that some of the fenders have the "rib" located in a different spot on the fender, making it impossible to mount your light brackets. Be aware of this when buying replacements. This was on a complete fender assembly. The skins by themselves might be closer to original.

If you find a 9n/2n hod it will be salvage.

Are the 'important' contures still left on the 9n hood so that you can fiberglass it?

If not unless you know of a parts machine.. you will be probably putting an 8n hood on it.

1000$ is a price for a running N that needs attention... Try to pay less for a non runner.
