I'm pretty sure I read about a supplier on this forum. Anyone recall the link? I have a TO-30 but I believe the regulator would be the same as on the N's. Thanks

you could go to most any AGCO/Allis or Case/IH dealer for this VREG. 6V Pos gnd A circuit, real common, but I wouldn't use a FORD VREG on it, I'd go with a 'fits Delco'.

What changes did the delco gennies do that changes the vreg..? ( being curious here.. ) different field coil? therefore different resistance and calibration for the vibrating contact?

I saw an add a while back about a solid state 2 terminal cutout for the 1 wire gennies.. and also a solid state 2 terminal cutout/regulator, again.. for the 1 wire gennies. Is that what you have? or do you have a 3 wire genny?

Do you not like the standard vibrating contact regulators?

1953 Ferguson TO-30 everything restored as origional. (except color, after all the work I just had to add some red) Delco-Remy third brush, two wire (A&F)generator. New wiring harness. I have replaced the regulator twice in last 5 years. Same service history and problem symtoms for both. They work great about 2 years, then stop enabling a charge. When battery starts getting weak, I can tap on side of regulator and the amp meter starts showing a charge....until battery charged up. A charge cycle will not begin unless I tap the regulator. I took the first unit apart and drew some 600 grit sandpaper between the contacts. That would cause regulator to resume normal function, but only for a month or so. Became too much trouble to repair so I purchased a replacement. NAPA $61.51. Now two years later having same symptom as before and can repair temporarly in same way. I just expected a regulator to last at least 10-15 years. Any advice welcome.

I would also expect a regulator to last longer than that. The one on my 66 IH cub looks OEM. And my NAA has a very old alternator with v-reg... housing is rusty.. etc..

Are you mounting it in a spot that it gets wet alot.. or bounced around?

Even though that sandpaper 'brings it back to life' it is damaging the contacts too. Try a points hone or file on it instead. Even a piece of brown paper grocery sack.. or as one member suggested.. a dollar bill. It leaves less striations on the contact area of the points.
