Dell(WA)-Your sparkie tester did good.
souNdguy- You were correct assuming it was a plug problem.
I changed the plugs, she now starts and runs great.
Thank you for your replies.
Have a GOOD 4TH

Ron

Ron..... ....I'm certain what you wrote makes sense to you, I'm just a little confused about your description of "spark to head".

The best shadetree mechanic sparkie test is to make certain yer sparkie will jump a BIG 3/16" gap. I take anyold sparkie and bend the side electrode out for a full 3/16" (0.1875") gap. I can then connect the sparkie-tester to any sparkie wire and clamp the sparkie threads to anyhandy bolt, bracket ...etc... and can watch the testy-sparky while cranking. And answer this basic question. DOES that SPARKIE JUMP that TESTY-GAPPY with BLUE-SNOTT AUTHORITY???

Make this sparky-testy and report back iff'n it don't make sense to you and we'll go from there..... ...Dell, the self-appointed sparkie-meister

Here's my guess Dell. When he holds the plug to the head.. he is getting no spark from the electrode to the plug body. When he holds the plug away from the head he gets spark from the plug body or electrode to the head..

I'm guessing a cracked insulator / shorted plug would be doing this.. that is.. the electrode is common with the plug case.. etc. And touching the plug to the head shorts the spark right to ground.. while holding the whole plug away from the head lets it tem jump to the head?

Hopefully he will post back with more info. My mindreading powers are even less developed than yours..
