Recently completed the rebuild on the NAA, and I have a situation which puzzles me. I had the block boiled, new radiator, hoses, water pump, thermostat and gauges. When the tractor is running and warmed up, the temperature gauge goes up into the green (normal operating range). After a few minutes, the gauge drops into the yellow (cold) range. Then, after a few minutes, it goes back into the normal operating range, and continues to fluctuate like that while being operated. Anyone have any ideas as to what might be happening? Thanks in advance.

Hi Ron, There are two possibilities that typically cause what you're seeing. Either the radiator has a lot more cooling capacity than is being utilized, or, the thermostat is not exposed to an adequate flow of coolant inside the engine. Provided the thermostat is installed facing the right way, neither "problems" were caused by anything you did or didn't do. If the tractor was working hard on a hot day the fluctuations would disappear completely. If the thermostat's position in the cooling system is your cause, a hole or two drilled in the flat portion of the thermostat may help. The size of the holes will depend on your circumstance. Start small & work up. I would have 2- 1/4" holes at most. Note that adding these bypass holes will make the tractor slower to come up to temperature. Good luck...Al English

I have a Jubilee basicly the same tractor. Mine does that too. I put a new termastat in mine and it still does it. So I would say it's just the thermastat opening and closing.

The Jubilee "is" the same tractor as the NAA except for the emblem on the front of the hood.
