41 9-N runs great. After 1/2 hr.of brush hoging I checked coolant. Clean, full & hot. It seemed to be circulating (moving) when I looked in the cap. But when I squeezed the hoses they felt like & sounded like air inside. I opened block petcock & got coolant there too. I have no problems but want to keep it that way. I figured if the coolant in the radiator is hot it must have been in the block. The air in the hoses has me puzzled. before I check further your advise usually saves time. Thanks!

I have an 8n that did not have a thermostat when I bought it. I noticed that the coolant didn't get all that hot. Installed one and the tractor runs alot better. The engine is designed to run more efficiently at a certain temp, just like your car. The thermostat is inside the upper rad hose. Didn't know if you knew that. Wi Craig

The only thing you should feel in the upper hose is the thermostat. If it's not there, the long-term life of your engine will ultimatly suffer. But, as many of us know, and as your usage proves, it will run just fine without one. So, my advice is to buy one & just wait until the next time you will be changing the oil to put it in.

You're imagining things. The only way you'd get that much air trapped in the hoses would be if the water pump wasn't working after a refill. And if that were the case, you'd have overheated it by now.

Just keep using it, you are like most new owners, Im gonna overheat this puppy burn it up and will cost big bucks for repair, no ,things sound rather normal.
