just digging into it. all 4 plugs are very wet. did a comp test and hit 110-120 on all cylinders. good news there. i looked at the cap and could see that there were burn marks on the far side of the contact. so i guess the timing would be sending fire a bit too late. that stupid gas strainer valve is junk. took off the fuel line and there was only a trickle. when the valve was closed it would still drip. took off the air cleaner tube and there was a couple ounces of gas that had leaked by over night. so my guess is that i was flooded and my timing was off. gonna run to tsc and buy a new valve. does this sound like a fair diagnosis to you. i ran out of time and gotta get to work.

To get gas in the air cleaner over night.. both the float valve in your carb leaks and the tank shutoff valve. You can get by with a leaky one on the carb for a while.. as long as the tank one doesn't leak at all. If you have time and money though.. look into cleaning the carb.

Flooding might have wet the plugs too. People have had mixed results with using the plugs after the've been gas-wet.

Good luck

Nope. Don't think so. For gas to "leak by" means the valve and the carb "leak by". More likely you flooded it with too much choke trying to start it. Less than a second is most likely enough choke and those carbs are very easy to flood with too much choke.
You need to fix that 'trickle' of gas for sure.
Try a shot of starting fluid. If it doesn't fire at all it's got to be electrical. If it's a fuel problem it should fire with a shot of starting fluid.
