An elderly friend of mine called me to help him get his side mount dist. 8n started. (6v) He had put new coil, rotor, dist.cap., points, cleaned the plugs, new wires, and new 6v coil. I reset the points to .017. Points fired good. I could get fire to and from both posts on coil but not from coil to dist. What's wrong here? thanks.

Like Don says.. sidemount point gap is .025.. also.. due to the way eletronics works.. if you have measured voltage on the far right contact on the coil ( the one going to the distribuitor ).. and have voltage present there.. then you MUST have voltage present at the distribuitor passthru wire... unless the wire itself is open... So if as you said.. had 'fire' to both posts on the coil.. then you certaintly also had 'fire' to the distribuitor.. unless.. like I said.. the small wire from the coil to the distribuitor was open..

Sidemount should be gapped at .025. Regap and try again. HTH
