If anyone can give me advise, I would greatly appreciate it. I bought a 8N (1950) and used it very little late last fall. Previous owner said I should drain the trany, rear end and hydo fluid incase it had water. I did it late last fall and let the tractor set outside all winter. I am going to put new fluid in this week. Should I take any percaution or look for anything in particular? Should fluid set in tractor for a few days before I use it?
Any help would be great.

Thanks

A word about those cheapsh** shifter boots. I bought one for my 8N and in two years it disintegrated! I now use an old boot from a car axle. they stand up to the weather much better. Rich

I agree with Rob.. once you get the sumps clear of water.. fix the shifter boot. then keep oil in it at all times.. its a great rust preventative..

I can't imagine why you can't fill it and use it. Make that shifter boot good because that's where the water gets in. You can get one at the local farm/ranch store. Double check the package against the tractor serial number/yr/model to get the proper boot. Soften it up in warm to hot water to make it install easier might be an idea.
You know empty tanks get condensation in the fall and winter. That sump might be tight enough but I don't know about that. I leave the oil in all year and I'd be afraid of condensation and rust if it was empty.
