So I buy the harness for an 8n, post-264..., but the regulator I have, and the new ones at TSC, have three contacts. The diagram in my manual shows four. I can probably figure out the ground but what about the other wires. I don't a wanna be guessin. And what about the harness? The colors don't seem to coordinate with the manual's.
STELLA! HELP!

Yor new one has 4 contacts as well.. the 4th one is ground.. and it is the mounting frame on the regulator.

the other 3 comtacts are easy.. one will be armature.. ( may be called genny ) The armature is the big stud ont he back of the genny where the charge comes 'out'.

One wire will be the field.. the field post is one of the 2 small posts on the genny housing, and it will be insulated fromt he housing by a rubber grommet.. or a phenolic washer... look at the two posts.. the other post is the ground post on the genny.. and it will be common with the case.

The 3rd contact on the regulator is batt.. that is.. out to the battery for charging.

Follow your wire colors and locate the connections. Hook up the neg regulator, and then polarize the system by quickly jumpering armature to battery.. there will be a small spark.. and then you are good to go.. do this with the tractor OFF!
