Hey all, Ok man droped of my 1952 8N last night. He started it up and drove it off the trailer. I wached what he did but missed a few things i guess. It smells like im flooding it and wont start. I know left side of dash is power switch, dose it go in for on or pull out for on? it cranks either way. Starter button is at shifter base and it has to be in Nutral think ive got that. Accelerator is it the lever or the pull knob on ritgh of stering wheel? or is it the pedal on the right side i know left side pedal is clutch. ty in advance be safe happy 4th

Go down to your local New Holland tractor dealer and buy the 8N Operator's manual and the FO-4 Shop manual. Pay attention to the pages and pages of Safety instructions and warnings, ok?
If the tractor doesn't start and run like the Operator's manual says it should then you have the Shop manual to figure out what to do about it.
Anything not clear or tricky post on the board.
That carb floods real easy. Needs less than one-second of choke to start most usually. I pull my choke out and immediately release it whether it needs it or not, habit I guess. You might end up putting a clean set of plugs in there before it starts. After a flood I will remove the air intake hose and dry out the gas and remove the plugs and wash them in Dawn dishsoap to remove the residue that can defeat subsequent attemps to start a once-flooded engine, especially in cold weather. I keep a spare set of plugs.

I have not seen your tractor but here are a few comments: The ignition switch is a key switch somewhere
on the dash. That pull knob to the right of the steering wheel is the choke. Your "Accelerator" is the lever arm under and to the right side of the steering wheel. It is not really an accelerator but more of a "cruse control" speed setting -- the governor controls the carburetor.
If i had to guess the knob on the left side would be the light switch -- pull it out for "ON".
See iffn your lights come on when you pull it out.

There is a fuel shutoff under the hood on the left side -- be sure that this is turned on before you try to start the tractor. Your N-Tractor uses a gravity feed fuel system so be sure to turn off your fuel when you park the tractor. Else a leaky
carb float valve could drain all your fuel onto the ground (or into the engine).

Sounds like you are trying to get off to a flying start. Slow down a bit, as hard as that is with a new toy. Tune up parts are not as simple as you might think, you will find great suggestions on this Board. First off "Points", go to a New Holland dealer don't use cheap points or you will have problems. Second, "Plugs" use hotter plugs such as Champion H-12 or Auto Lite 437's. "Wires", must be older type solid copper wire not "automobile" noise suppresion type. Get that FO-4 manual to get you started, then you will also find yourself on this "Board" more than the tractor. Have fun!

That sound when you attempt to start is the starter Bendix drive disengaging. That's normal when the engine catches, even momentarily.
