tractor losses power cutting foot high grass, its really frustrating since I know what it can really do. Anyway spent a couple hours looking for problem. Went through fuel supply, air cleaner, wires, distributor. Could find nothing wrong. after putting distributor back on, cap would not seat. rotor hits back of cap and prevents seating. Took distributor back off. Noticed shaft had jammed and locked would not turn. Unjammed it and fitted cap. Cap went right on. Re-installed, cap woldn't go on again. Took back off. Noticed 1/8 up and down play in shaft. Finally got it all back together. Been reading archives, what is needed in parts and skill level to replace distributor bushings. Should I replace weights and springs? I want my power back, the cub cadet cuts better.

Let's start with this: Is it a sidemount or a frontmount dizzy? If it's a sidemount, I just went through this and might be able to help you out.

sorry Joe, I got carried away with the description of problem. It's a frontmount distributor.

Ratz..... ..I know yer trying to anticipate potential problems, but the only way that I know it to visually inspect your distributor weight plate and spring bracket AFTER you have access to it.

Bushing wear is usually a side-to-side issue, but up-and-down is usually a lost/missing "keeper".

And yes, engine power loss can be contributed to distributor timing advance governed by the centrifical advance weights/springs..... ...Dell

Tom..... ...my blue-eyed, blue merled Australian Shepherd dog that I use on my RockyRidge SheepStation, 15 awesome acres of starvation grass at the foot of 14k Mt. Rainier on Puget Sound, Washington State is named "Keeper".

Keepers are also known as spring-loaded split-C washers that you must remove to remove the part you are interested in..... ..Dell
