I appreciate all the help you folks provide, but what books/newsletters should I get so I don't have to boot this damn computer up to post a question. I have a repair manual, but as far as explaining problems and parts, I find it lacking/

Along with what everybody else said, you might try joining some of the clubs and other tractor sites. Some are limtited to the ford N's.. some are general antique tractor stuff.

yt mag. com good general tractor info... No parts for sale.. just a discussion forum

tractor boards. com Has an N club. Lotsa guys from here.

N news. com Has a good newsletter/magazine about ford N's

ford fordson collection society. Has a newsletter/magazine. More event oriented than n=news.. but less tractor goody content than n-news. ( a good publication in its own right, as it has good classifieds and some free services for members ).

ATIS. net antique tractor board.. lotsa flavors

There are also on the shelf magazines.. like antique power, hobby farm, and farm collector that either exclusively feature antique tractors.. or are heavilly influenced by them.

The more people you can meet.. boards you can post on.. parts places you can find.. the better off you are. If you need info.. it helps having a mailing list of dozens of people / places to call.. same with parts.. new or used..

Also, for fun reading, get some Roger Welsch books like Busted Tractors and Rusty Knuckles or Old Tractors and the Men Who Love Them.

I have quite a few books. I use the I&T F-04 manual quite a bit. The Antique Tractor Bible and How to Rebuild and Restore Farm Tractor Engines by Spencer Yost are pretty good reference materials. How to Restore your Farm Tractor by Robert Pripps is ok. Ford Tractor Data Book by Jeff Creighton is good for spec info on Fordson to the Hundres Series tractors. Ford N Series Tractors Originality Guide by Chester Peterson is ok and gives specs on N Series tractors and tips on painting, but has several incorrect info and pics that isn't "Original" on the tractors. Good for a fun "Seek-and-Find" when I am bored. I also have 5 or 6 Ford Tractor history type books, the best IMO is Ford Farm Tractors by Randy Leffingwell.

But - I still get my best info here on the net between the several message boards and John Smiths great website. So plan to "boot the damn computer" from time to time to find some really great experience and advise from great Antique Tractor people on this message board.

Good luck,
Dan

"Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance"
This might sound as if it's a joke, it's not. And it's absolutly the first book that comes to mind...
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance
That's the name of the book, it's available just about anywhere...

Zen and the Art had such a meaning to me I have the chapter marker from it tattooed on my forearm, the wrench growing outta the leaves. Had that tat for near 30 years.

Another really good one was just called, "Truck" by a guy called John (I think) Jerome. It was about the trials and tribulations of rebuilding a 1950 Dodge pickup, and still winding up with , well.....a 1950 Dodge pickup! very reminiscent of the way we work on these old tractors. A great read, and a pile lighter than Zen

Sort of... the videos they offer here at YTMAG might be of interest. I cam speak of two... I really enjoyed the Brake repair video, but stay away from the paint video!!! In the paint video, real amatuer, no saftey gear used, and pretty hack work...
AP
So you did read the Art of Motorcycle Maintenace?
