Just wondering, now that the old girl is running good, I am thinking she needs to start looking a bit nicer, is the red paint on my 8N available in rattle cans so I can do some touch-up???
I checked locally and no luck, the closest I could come was International red, close but not close enough.

I also am a fan of the TSC "ford red". It's a very close match to the original red on the backs of my 8n's brake backing plates(I know its original because grandad bought it new & never painted it; also, he kept the wheels @ the closest setting, never once reversed 'em). When I tore it down & scraped all that oil-dirt paste off I couldn't believe how the paint held up.

I have an 8N that I bought as a work tractor. The paint was more orange than red and since I didn't want to restore it, I repainted all of the red with spray cans of "Ford Red" from Tractor Supply. (They also have the light gray.) It is a nice bright red and readily available. $4.15 a can..... . They also have it in quarts & gallons for touch up or whatever..... I can send you a picture if you would like, the red is done and I'm working on the gray. It probably will not hold up nearly as well as a real paint job but does look nice and works for what I want.
Good Luck
Gary

I used the TSC 'Ford Red' and 'Ford Gray' on mine (at least on the parts of mine that've been repainted)...

Your New Holland dealer has rattle cans of red that is even the right color. It's called 956 Ford red. Some say it is too orangey, but it seems to be very close to what the original was, if I remember right.

Although many 8N's were repainted with that red it is the color of red that was introduces with the 601, 701, 801, and 901 series for the 1958 model year. The 8N original red was considerable darker with out the orange cast. A close rattle can is Tru-Values XO-6 red but nothing can compensate for the changes in color due to weather and sunlight.

Like John says. It's hard to find what we 'believe' may be the real 8b red paint.. and even then... if you do find one that did match.. the faded paint on your N wouldn't match. Most likely someone has repainted it.. probably many times.

Best you can do is eyeball it.

If you are just trying to slap some paint on some bare metal to prevent rust... go for it.. color doesn't mater.. and the metal will thank you for it.

If you want to be semi uniform.. either get a buncha rattle cans of the same color.. or brush/roll it on and then touch up with rattle cans..

Well, depends on the color of the "red aint". That is to say, a lot of fellas go to great length to match the original. Most times the original is not available in rattle cans, off the shelf.

I hope others have a better explanation. John,PA
