I have a very hard working 1949 8N that I have had for 3 years now and use it mostly every day. It is in great shape due to this board including motor rebuild. When I rebuilt the motor I installed a hour meter on it. It has 735 hours on the rebuilt motor now with 35 pounds of oil pressure when up to tem. I change the oil and filter every 100 hours like clock work with a very good oil that I use in everything. When I change the oil it look almost like it did when I put it in, not dirty at all. Question is, is 100 hours to often or should I put more hours on the oil. Thanks Larry North East Texas where its hot now.

In the old days, and some follow the same regiment today, car mfgr's suggested changing the oil every 3000 miles. Well, driving that old car at an average of 30 mph, that would be 100 hrs. Sounds perfect to me!

IT sounds like you've got a good running tractor, Larry, and you're willing to take care of it. My hat's off to you! What it boils down to is what you are comfortable with. I can't remember what the recommended oil change interval is right off the top of my head (I do mine twice a year regardless of hours), but I do remember that Ford said to change the filter when the oil started getting dark. You're obviously way ahead of that. On the other hand, today's motor oil quality is leaps and bounds ahead of what it was when these things were built, so some may say to run her a little longer. Then again, these engines only have sidestream oil filtration, so it doesn't get filtered quite as well as in your truck, for instance. If you're using it hard in the Texas heat and the oil still looks good when you change it, I'd say to stay the course and continue your present maintenance schedule. Oil and filters are cheap compared to the cost, time, and agravation of another overhaul. You can't change it too often!
