The front rims on my one of my lastest finds look like rims from a vintage car. They are spoked rims with 6 by 16 tires and are in good shape. I am not interested in old cars but would like to sell them. Any of ya'll that were around when they put spoked rims on cars with 6 by 16 tires please give me guess at the date of the rims. The rims are on a 1943 2n. Thanks Ya,ll

1935 Ford cars had spoked rims. I believe these were 16". 1934 Ford cars also had spoked rims, but I think they may have been 17". In 1936 Ford came out with the large hub and used that configuration through 1939. They then went back to the 5 1/2" hub in 1940 and used this through 1948 on Ford cars and were still using it on Ford pick-ups long after that. The 1935 had the same 5 1/2" bolt circle as the 40-48 Ford cars. Also the Model A Ford had the 5 1/2" bolt circle.

Found an old car web site and the rims are from a 1935. Looks like 36 was the last year for spokes.

The N was one of the war year units and as such most likely was OEM with a MAG and steel wheels. Some farmer replaced them at an undetermined time with anything he could find. Just about any A car wheels would fit. Did ya known that the A car used the same brake shoes as the N tractor? Old Henry was clever that way. I used a lot of tractor parts in rebuilding several old A cars when I was a bit younger.

Did not think about the N having steel wheels and a mag. That explains the old car tires and rims. It also explains why the distributor is missing.

In addition, the N would not have had an electric starter, only a crank. I am glad that we are past that point now! We had an old one cylinder water cooled cement mixer which we used regularly that had a crank. I remember one time that the crank stuck after it started and it ended up flying free and sticking in the canopy of the shop roof. Made a nice little one and a half inch hole that I suppose may still be there.

I know for sure that the wheels off a 1938 Ford car will fit the 9N/2N front hubs. Maybe the 1937???? Don't know about the spokes???? Seems like all my old 38s had a wheel that was sort of scolloped with lots of holes around the circumference of the wheel disc.

Boy! I wish I still had that 38 business couple that was the first car I ever owned. Traded a 1950 Allstate Cushman delux scooter for it even in Bossier City Louisiana. I destroyed it!

You have a good memory. The 38 did not have spokes. An old car web site shows that the spokes stopped in 1936.
