Thanks to all of you who helped me get a spark, now that she's running, another question. When idling and with the cluth in/down, the mill runs smooth and strong, but just a sittin' there, it rattles and churns.

Whaddya folk tink?

You probably have a loose linkage spring inside the tranny housing. As long as you don't have a shifting problem, I wouldn't split my tractor. BUT iff'n I couldn't standitt and just hadd to split my tractor, I'd replace the tranny front seal at the same time. ($3 cheap) Itza 4-bolt, 15 minute job..... ....Dell

Hey Dell I'm curious how difficult a job is it to split an 8N. I'm talking barn lot under a tree here not nice shop with hoist n stuff. Not that I'm considering it just want to know in case the time comes.

Splitting a tractor is not too awfully difficult if you can support the front and the back sufficiently. It is more a hassle taking all the things off/apart so you can split it. The real problem comes when you have to do the work you split the tractor for...
