My neighbor has a small kubota tractor that he sprung about 15k for. He was lamenting that the hydraulics wouldn't lift round bales because they were too heavy. Would my 8N do the job??

I've been threatening to get a bigger tractor. The ONLY reason I "need" a bigger tractor is because I want to move round bails... though I wouldn't mind having live hydraulics too. That trailer Zane is talking about sounds like the way to go... I can keep my tractor with that!
Anybody know where I can get some info on one of these bail trailers, or a picture of one?
thanks

That was the main reason I bought my Case 1030, to handle round bales. Well, that and to make them! LOL! At 105 hp, it'll pull and run a lot bigger implements than I can afford. I still use the 2N for nearly everything else. Mostly for the fuel economy. The N will work hard for half the day on the same amount of fuel as the Case uses just warming up enough to do any real work!

Well..... ..... ...
I move round bales with both my 9N and my 1700 fords all the time.
HOWEVER the round bales are 4 X 4s and fescue orchard grass.
Although the hydralics of the 1700 will lift a 5x5 (have never tried 5x5 with the 9n) the tractor (even with 200lbs of front weights) goes nose up at most every bump.
Yeha! Ride em cowboy (not)

No!

There is a bale trailer that you can back up to a large round bale and drop a hook over then when you pull up it raises the bale and you can tow it behind anything that will pull it.

I've heard those trailers called doodlebugs. The look great.. and your pickup truck can take it to go get the bale.. and then have the tractor tow it into the pasture.

will it lift big round bales? maybe
should you lift big round bales? no

first thing, big rounds vary a lot in weight depending on what is in them e.g. alfalfa or grass

second thing, your hydralics will need to be in excellent shape or your relief valve will pop off

been there, done that, wouldn't do it again because once I got one up I lost all steering authority and had to kind of aim it with the brakes. too much rodeo for a week day.

if you do try this make sure the tractor is pointed where you want to go because you won't turn it.

n series are great little tractors but there are things you shouldn't ask of them and this is one of those things.

your mileage may vary

If it wont lift the bale it will raise the front end off the ground. I could float the front end of a 706 ger.with 500# wt. on the front if bales were much over 1200#.
