Hi All,

I got the countershaft and main-shaft 3rd gear for my Jubilee project tractor yesterday. John Smith fixed me up just fine with the used parts. I was very pleased with the entire experience in dealing with him.

I got the main-shaft and countershaft reassembled and almost ready to go back in the transmission. I’m waiting on new seals.

I do have a question regarding the rear countershaft seal that is located in the PTO shifter mechanism, which also serves as the rear countershaft retainer. It looks like the seal(s) in the PTO shifter/countershaft retainer is actually a double seal or two seals back to back. (one with the lip facing the transmission and another one with the lip facing the hydraulic sump) behind the bearing cup. It may just be one wide seal; I haven’t disassembled the PTO shifter yet to know for sure.

Is this correct? The FO-19 manual shows a seal in the diagram of the PTO shifter/rear countershaft retainer but it doesn’t look as wide as it does in the shifter mechanism. The manual states to disassemble the PTO shifter and drive the old seal and bearing cup out to replace the new seal.

Thanks for any input.

Its one seal that has a double lip, has to seal oil in both directions. Parts man told me the # has changed from NAA 77086 to 233274, At the time I was looking for one they did not have it in stock. After I put it all back together I liked to never got the metal hydraulic lines back on from the pump to the rear housing. They looked to be about new. Hope yours fits better. don't forget you will have to bleed the hydraulic pump of air by taking a plug outa the end of the pump and running the engine at idle to purge out the air.

Rick, it is just possible that it is two seals. Some of the old wide tractor seals are not available. I rebuilt the right angle gear box for the pto a couple of years ago and I had to use two seals to replace the wide one that came out. Maybe somebody had to work on this transmission sometime in the past and had to do this.
