Yes, I have the books. Yes, I have used this board for lots of things, including doing the recent tune-up on my 1948 8n. The front mount distributor was a piece of cake. I replaced plugs, wires, rotor, points, condensor, isolator, cap, and gaskets because Alvin was such a pain to start. Fired right up after the work; fastest start-up yet. Along comes a nice weekend so I decide to get it out of the shed to do some work before the rain begins again. Crank, crank, crank, nothing. Fully/freshly charged battery, fire at the plugs, plugs wet with fresh fuel. Acts like I may have moisture in the cap or the sparkies are going haywire in the coil. Hopefully, I can get to it NEXT weekend.

Frustrating ain't it???

My guess is your point gap has slipped. Not uncommon on frontmount distributors.

Now that you are up on the learning curve, it shouldn't take you more that 15 minutes to R & R.

Check your points mounting screw, the threads get worn. p/n 355047S 8-32 X 3/16 fillister hd screw w/star lockwasher. You may have to cut down a 1/4 long screw. Carefull, it doesn't extend into the centrifical weights or otherwize catch on something..... ...Dell

Thanks, Dell. I started life as an electronic tech and a backyard mechanic. If it can go wrong, I have had it do so. First time through the front mount is a hair-raiser (that's why I don't have any), but it probably won't take much more than 15 minutes to do it this time. I just need to get dry weather so I can tow Alvin out of the shed to see what is going on. No room in there to work. Good thing is that the hydraulics have thawed enough that just cranking the engine raises the blade! Just need a fluid change there. A friend of mine in Austin, on seeing my N, described it as the ultimate boy toy. Told him to get his butt up here and help fix it. Laffs.

Thanks, Dell, This is great info for all of us. Presume the same screw works on virtually all of the U.S. 4-cylinders 9N-901s (and 4-cylinder 4000s). Right? Thanks in advance. Mike-Iow
