Whatever connected the choke rod to the carb of my '41 9N seems to have gone AWOL. I have looked at the various diagrams in catalogs and service manuals but they seem to ignore this small but important piece, which I presume to be some sort of cotter pin (?). I also looked at my '52 8N but it has a different carb set-up than the 9N so that hasn't helped.
Anybody know what this piece is, and where I can get another one??

whenI replaced my choke rod on my 41 9N, I thought that buying new was the way to go,,,, the stuff made offshore does not always fit, work , or otherwise be corrct.... the short of a long story is if you have access to a junk yard that has tractors get an old one or be prepared to fiddle and remake the new one....it is a simple part but the end fitting that goes over the ball can be a project by itself

I am restoring my 41 9N, I noticed on one of the quick releases they soldered a thin peice of metal around the end that was rusting out. It was still doing the intended job after who knows how many years... Not much help if the socket is totally gone but if you have one on the way out its a simple fix

Someone in my past discovered that bailing wire does a great job of holding linkages together. The little 2" short rod behind the dash on the 9N/2Ns had been replaced with a metal flat bar with two holes and bailing wire wrapped around the ball so it wouldn't come off! Then again, in this case, a new choke rod is about $15 or so? I had the problem of the new rods, the quick release socket is crimped and the socket broke off where the crimp was if I took it on/off too many times. Oh well.

Well, if it's the same as on the 2N, then the choke rod connects the choke rod to the carb choke plate. See, the choke rod has a spring loaded socket on the end of it that clamps onto the ball of the choke plate shaft. It just snaps on and snaps off. I have found where some have had the socket break off and just dissapear. The choke rod is readily reproduced and easily had if you know the right suppliers.

I am having the same problem, I tried some JB weld to hold the lil' sucker on, but it keeps slipping off, the tension springs seems to be tight, but it's not holding the little silver piece on to the piece extending out from within the carb, aggravating isn't it?
