Rinse w/ kerosene?

First time I drained my hydro it was contaminated w/water, and still looks pretty bad after new fluid was added. Should I rinse w/ kerosene? Too, would water alone stop my 3-point from lifting? I have Zane's trouble-shooting trips but hope I don't need to pull the pump.

Thanks guys- any girls out there?

Has anyone tried WD40? I know that it would be more expensive than kerosene but probably more effective at removing water and way cheaper than an overhaul. The whole reason for the development of WD 40 was water displacement. Just a thought.

A lot of water can cause lots of problems with the lift. Mostly though it likes to make the cont rol valve stick.

Do not ever run the hydraulic system with nothing but solvent in it at any time. Same goes with any mechaincal thing that requires lubrication with oil or grease etc. Especially an engine.

I don't know where that practice got it's start but it is definately a good way to damage or ruin an engine or hydraulic system etc. Don't!

As per mentioned never operate without proper lube! FUNNY STORY (NOW):
I had an old gent as one of our long standing customers that mistook a five gallon can of molasses that he used to sweeten his hay with for a bucket of hydraulic oil. He noted his lift wasn't working correctly on his "N" while he was in his barn. He picked up the can and filled up to the mark! He then noticed the sweet smell as he was putting the can away. End of the story was that we had to pickup the tractor, totally disassemble the trans, hydraulics, & rear then power wash everything with hot water to remove the sticky mess.

Depends on just how water-logged the fluid is; probably not though, if you have new fluid. Go ahead & drain it again, and start flushing it w/ kerosene. You might want to remove both inspection plates and reach in and remove the sludge by hand.
