I've tried a few things since my last post (see below)
Still having problems:
Before I started it up, I did check for fuel flow by removing the carb drain plug. Seems like good flow. Put the drain plug back in, and used the tractor for about 40 minutes... Then the problem started up agian... I tried something Dell mentioned in a previous post about pulling the choke, and the bull riding changed to a slow weak pony ride... Then quits. OK could be coil, but,,, lets try pulling the air filter and see what happens... So, off comes the air filter. Starts right up, runs good for about 10 minutes. Wow this must be it!!! NOT! It died off at the other end of the field... I reinstalled the air filter (which is clean). In tring to restart (while hot) it will start, run for about 7 seconds, then quit. I let things cool for about 45 minutes and same thing. It will start, run for about 7 seconds and quit....
So what do you think???
Thanks everybody!!!
Adam

Dell, would a bad condenser also account for the other problems too??? (bull riding!)
Thanks for the insight,
Adam

What's spark look like?

I would get a couple sets of jumper wires.. and jumpe rthe key switch first.. then the resistor just for kicks and see what it does. Possible even jumper straight from battery to coil post.

At this point I'm almost leaning toward coil.. but want to rule out bad contacts first. Spark color will help.

Check it at each plug. Might also try the trick of pulling the plug wire.. but holding it real close to let the spark jump the extra gap.. if that smooths out the running.. either it is fouled plugs.. or another issue where you need higher voltage.. that extra gap lets the voltage get to a higher potential before jumping..

Thanks Soundguy! At this point, I know I'm due for a tune up... Cap, condenser, points, wires etc... I know it wount hurt... I'm not one for "shotgun" maintenance, just seems like a good place to start... Though I might use the old coil at first to see what type of improvement I get... I'll be ordering a new coil, 'cause the one I have in there now has got to be a good bit old.... I'll be ording a 12 volt coil, so when it goes in, I can bypass the resistors... Not that I have anything against the ballast and dropping resistors, but given the choice, the direct approach is a nice approach!!!
Let me know your thoughts, and thanks again!!!

If wea are talking about a front mount coil.. check with the dealer.. most of the ones I've seen still need a small amoun tof resistance in line with them. Even the ones from the parts place in NC needs some. I use Dell's 'trick' 1/2 ohm 20 watt resistor on my 2n.. works great.

At some time ya going ta havta eliminate eather the fuel or ignition system. If ya have a propane tourch ya can put a long piece of rubber tubing on the end of the tourch and fasten the other to the inlet of the carb or air filter. when it starts to run poor inject some propane to it, if this improves it ya know ya have fuel trouble, if not then ya have to look at the ignition. Have not read all the post, is it 12 or 6V. if 12v and ya have a timming light ya can hook it up and run till ya have the problem and see if yer loseing the flashing light at the timming light.

You can accompolish the same thing easier and more safely by pulling carb air intake hose loose and squirting a quick shot of starter fluid. If she speeds up you know its not getting enough gas. Also take small plug from bottom of carb. See if you're getting a good "pee" from the carb. If not, clean your filters (3) good.
