The lever on the left side is to engage/disengage the PTO and hydraulics. Towards the front is disengaged, and towards the rear is engaged.

The right side lever is to switch between position control and draft control. Position uses your position lever up and to the right to lift the hydraulics and will stop when you stop pulling up. The draft control will keep your hydraulics at a specific hieght using the BIG spring in the middle center underneath your seat. This position is used for plowing when you want to keep the plow at a specific dept for instance.

I recommend getting an 8N Operators Manual at the very least, and an I&T FO-4 manual if you plan on working at all on your 8n for repairs. It explains all these levers and quite a bit more for about $20 or less.

Good luck,
Dan

the left side lever is your engagement for pto and hydraulics. Neither works unless this lever is pushed to the rear. the right side lever under the seat is for position control (up) or draft control (down). Position control is for keeping what ever your hydraulics is lifting or lowering at a constant place according to your lift control lever (also on the right side near the fender)For example: a rotary mower. Draft control(lever down or horizontal) is for plowing with a two bottom plow, for instance. It allows the plow to run at a depth consistent with the lay of the land and avoid such things as hanging on a rock and doing a lot of damage.
