just bought an old travel-eze trailer camper with dry rotted tires. The tires are some 15" trailer tires mounted with tubes. Provided the rims are not pitted with holes can I mount tubeless tires on them?

I dont see a problem.
The trick I have learned from 1 year at a major tire store (not super store), Dismount the tire and clean the rim very well. Take it back home if you have to. A wire wheel on a hand grinder or bench grinder works well. After it is cleaned, use rubber cleaner (for tire patches), Brake clean or other solvent will also work. Mount the tire to the wheel and before you air it up, really goop the bead areas with patch glue. Inflate before the glue dries and you will not have a leak. I fixed many farm wagon wheels this way, and wouldnt be afraid to use this method on any trailer tire.

First off, it'd depend on the rims. There ARE rims made specifically for tubed tires that just won't seal up for tubeless. Secondly, (assuming that they are 'standard' rims, for tubeless tires) after running tubes in these rims, they often won't seal up, anyway (my current situation on a 12' utility trailer).

That being said...

My own opinion/recommendation (and if I had it to do all over again) would be to either keep the tubes or replace the entire tire/wheel assembly (around here you can get used rims for ~$25/per and used tires for ~$7 or less).
