When adding grease to the tractor grease nipples, do you add just enough grease to make the boot hard or do you keep adding new grease until the old grease comes out of the side of the dust boot?

The front grease cups aren't sealed.. so when you hit them with grease.. it can come out if too much. The rear draglinks on the other hand, can rupture if you grease them too much.

On the other points like spindles, and 3pt adjustable arm.. I grease till I see old grease extruded.

My opinion is that if you can't see it you don't know if you did it.

Boots: Like steering seals (tie rod boots) on trucks will expand when you grease them so I grease till I see them start to change shape, or feel with my finger till they feel full.

So called sealed bearings: Pump till I feel resistance. Won't see grease, but will feel change in resistance when full.

Tie rod ends: grease till you see grease, as with everything else that needs greasing; especially front wheel king pins (or whatever they're called). Sometimes I pump 20 pumps or so before seeing grease; usually at least 10 on the larger tractors and seldom as low as 2 or 3.

So the old axiom "a couple of pumps" sucks.

I, also, never lost a bearing for about the same time frame, until 2 yrs. ago, coming up from Florida along I-65. Lost the right front wheel bearing. Not due to a lack of lubrication, just fatigue, I guess. Pulled off the road, changed the bearing, and was off again in about 1 hr.
Good to have spare parts onboard.

Way to go. Hate to be broken down on the road. Feel so vulnerable.

Talk about fatigue, had an 18 wheel rockbucket with 1.3 mil miles and you should have seen some of those OEM bearings. Was really surprised they lasted as long as they did under the tremendous pounding they took.

Course these were lubricated by oil rather than grease and there was a plastic window on the hub where you could see the oil level, and a red cap to remove for filling.
