What a bad idea. Replaced a pump with 40 lbs pressure at full throttle. Like a dummy - cut a gasket so I wouldn't have to use the paper "wimpy" gasket after the pump rebuild (shop-pro). Zero oil pressure. Gonna prime it this weekend through the front cover. Hope it works - but I foresee having to drop the pan and put in that dern wimpy gasket for closer tolerance. DOH!!

Anyone done the same before?

No you can't make a gasket for the N pump. It would be better to put it together with no gasket than to try to "fix" the thin gasket. It has to be thin in order for the gears to fit close enough to create pressure. The thicker gasket will just allow the oil to squish by the gears and do nothing.

Pack the pump with plain old bearing grease when you repair it and it will immediately start pumping when the engine turns. Do not pack any of the pick up tube with grease, just the pump and gears.
