Any of ya"ll ever jumper across the starter swithch on a 9n with a screw diver. It is a bad idea when there is gas on the ground under the carburator. The wife just happened to be standing around when the sparks flying off the screw driver landed in the gas. And you know gas will give you a big fire instantly. Wow!

Hope nobody was hurt!
Guy could short that switch 50 times, no problem. Then one day, your fire.... 10-degrees cooler air temp and it might not have happened. You just have to keep safety #1 and hope when it does happen it's not too bad.

I have used a remote starter switch to eleminate the sparkie potential for that reason. Sparks on the camp fire are good, sparks on the tractor are bad!

Glad to hear no one was hurt.

The remote starter might be a good way to go. Sure it is but I've never used one.
As for gas, there is one rule foremost: tend to any spill before you do anything else, even if you walk away and let it evaporate. Bottom line, you work around a gas spill you are playing with fire.

Exactly! A good friend of mine lost a $50,000 pull tractor and his entire machine shop when a stray spark ignited spilled methanol that he hadn't bothered to clean up immediately. No insurance whatsoever on the pull tractor. Even his house insurance balked at paying for his tools and machine tools, because the pull tractor was technically a part time business, and he didn't have business insurance on the shop.
