Can someone tell me how I can know if the water pump is working properly?

How do I test a 2n coil to see if it is good?

How do you test a coil to see if it si good.. welll the best way is to see if it starts the tractor.

If you just want to check for continuity of the coil windings, check the top post to the bottom curley wire.. it should read almost a short.. in fact.. on anything but an expensive meter.. it is goin to read 0-1 ohms.. that tells you it is not open.. but primary winding still REALLY could be shorted.

Top post to the bottom flat spring should read much higher in the low single digit K's.. say.. 4k-7k.. again.. only shows continuity.. still possiblt to have some shorted windings in the secondary.

If you have the tractor available.. hook it up and spin the engine over and see if you have sparks on the spark plug lines.. or even pull the distribuitor, and clamp it in your vice, and use a battery and jumper wires to hook it up.. and have a spark plug wire and plug to test in each socket.. use a screwdriver or anything to spin the distribuitor cam drive over..

so.. what's the water pump question?

Thanks Soundguy. See 1st question.
How can I tell if the water pump is working?

This communicating by computer is totally new to me, but I can see how great it will be to be able to get info from those with much knowledge about the N series Ford tractors. My brother and I have a 46 2N that our daddy bought in the mid fifties.

Well.. that's almost one of those faith things...

If it isn't leaking out the weep hole, or isn't making whiney noise or wobbling from a bad bearing.. it's probably working.

What makes you ask?

Thanks Soundguy.
It just seems to be getting too hot too quickly.
It does not seem to be overheating. Of course, it never runs more than about 50 minutes when it starts to miss and then quits. From other posts on this site, I'm guessing that we need to replace the coil. Thanks again.
