Looking at upgrading

8N in KS

I have a 478N. I am looking at upgrading. The options that I have are a Ford 2600 with only 170 hours on it for $7,000 or a Ford 1510 with about 2300 hours on it for $4500. I have 2 acres, but am looking at adding and additional 10. All sorts of work from mowing to plowing to blading to other landscaping. Also, what is a decent price for a used front end loader?

I hate to part with the old 8N, but it has no brakes and the Mrs. wants to stop!

Thanks for the advice.

You could fix the brakes on the 8N for a lot less $. However, the 2600 is a good tractor. I own a 1983 Ford 2310 which is the next generation of the 2600. Don't know much about the 1510 except it is a Japaneese made Ford compact tractor (not to mean it is inferior). Parts would probably be cheeper on the 2600. The 1510 HP would be more in line with the 8N. The 2600 is about 35 HP. HTH. Rick H. GA.

Unless you are really set on an upgrade and have the $$, the cheapest thing you could do would be to fix the brakes on your 8N and keep it. It was designed for a 40 acre farm, so it should be able to handle the 12 acres without a problem.

You could get a pipe frame front loader for the N for probably less than $300. No idea on what a loader would cost for the two other tractors you mentioned.

But no matter how much you might save, if the Mrs. isn't happy, the money wouldn't be worth it!
