Looks like you don't have an fo-4 manual yet.. or some of those questions would be answered. First.. the transmission, differential, and hyds all share one common 5 gallon sump. Di[pstick is either in right side round cover plate by your heel.. or on the tranny top cover on the early 9n. We usually only fill with about 4.5-4.75 gallons to keep leaky seals from weeping, and greasing the breaks. Ther eis one fill-em-up on the tranny cover.. and three drain plugs.. a pipe plug in the diffy.. and two big 2" plugs .. one in the hyd pump bottom.. and the other inthe tranny bottom.. drain the small plug first as it is a bit easier to manage that stream of oil. Remove a bottom bolt from the round coper, and add oil only till it dribbles from there.. that is enough oil in the system for hyds, and diffy/tranny lube.. and keeps the level below the rear axle seals, and the tranny input seal.. as they are prone to leakage. As for type of oil... it is a topic of great debate, and many opinions. Basically there are 2 specced oils. The original spec which was a 90wt mineral gear oil.. that is still available as a gl-1 90wt oil.. generally at wall-mart, tsc, and napa There is also the new spec oil from new holland.. 134d.. it is thinner.. but otherwise works good in a well maintained system in good repair. Also works good in colder areas where your lift may be slow with thick oil. If you lift is weak or leaks.. consider the thicker 90wt oil. There are also many generic 'transdraulic' oils that meet the 134d spec.. tsc has them, as well as most manufactures. Soundguy
