Just a follow up on the wasp issue. You may remember I posted a note not long ago about the problems I had with a wasp sting, went into shock, etc etc. Well today, while trying to finish up the long over due barn painting, I did not notice one wasp nest near where I had put my ladder. ONE durn wasp came down and nailed me on the back of the right hand, below the middle finger.

I immediately came inside and washed it off with cold water and soap. Then took three table spoons of children's Benadryal and sat down with my feel elevated. Took my blood pressure and called my wife and told her.

Long story, short happy version. My blood pressure stayed down, and although the sting hurt, I went back out and painted some more , in a different location.

So, although I am still allergic to them, I know now what to do.. and 911 is on my speed dial..
BTW, barn is looking good!! I got maybe one more day of trim painting and it is done!!

Getting stung or bit by a spider. Take a key off your key ring and press it on the skin with the hole centered on the sting. In less than a minute you will see the poison being forced back out of the break in the skin. If the key is used before the poison starts to migrate and spread almost all of the poison can be removed. It doesn’t hurt nearly as bad with the poison removed.

Hey Ole ask your doctor to prescribe an EpiPen. It is a pen like thing that has a spring loaded syringe. If you start to feel like it was a bad sting you just put it to you leg and it will inject epinephrine( adrenaline) which could save your life, especially if you live in the boonies and have to wait for EMS toget there. They cost $61 at walgreens but well worth it.

With your luck and the fact that you are alergic to stings, You should ask your doctor for an EpiPen it would be a true life-safing med.

It would be a good idea to get a tetanus shot for all of you guys getting stung.

while painting the house last week I had one fly in my mouth and sting me on the back lip. Teach me to yell obcenities at them. I'm not allergic to them and it actually gave me a pleasing euphoric feeling for a while.

Darn wasps have been very prolific. I went out to start the '73 Bronco snow plow (no, no snow)just to warm it up and drive it out in the field.
Wasp nest in each door and one under the hood.
Later I lifted the hood off my H Farmall to check the power steering. Another wasp nest.
Also a nest in the hood of my Jubilee.
A shot of starting fluid knocks them down real quick!

Best thing to do is spray a can of inflammable substance, like starting-fluid,Old Wd-40, deodorant, etc, thru a Cigarette lighter. Makes Bueno Blowtorch!! Wasps have their wings burned off and fall to the ground and buzz harmlessley. Of course, make sure that you are not spraying this in areas where folks or flammable materials are lurking. Back in the 70's, we had an apartment in Louisville, there were several wasp nests on the outside staircase, by the door, folks were always getting stung trying to use the door. So, a buddy of mine and I tried the ol' Burn Em' routine, when a person came out the door and walked right onto the flames! Poor person was all freaked out, of course. But when he was apprised about what we were doing, was appreciative, since he was one of the ones that had gotten stung. Of course, now they would have immediately secured the services of a lawyer, ehhehe. I've done this many times, never had a problem. Of ocurse, your mileage may vary, hehehe.

A few weeks ago was my wasp week. I still have the mark from the sting.. but thankfully the reaction was over in a few days.. and wasn't a hospital trip like the other fellow.

I too found a big nest on my NAA.. was under a fender.. and a hornets nest under the hood.. These guys don't give up.

To the poster: Glad to see you are ok.

Good to hear you avoided a bad reaction. Gotta get rid of those buggers. Safe and happy painting. Eric
