I am installing a new front axle spindle (50 8n) and not sure where the 2 bushings go when installed. The parts manual doesn't show exact location. These bushings are also loose on the spindle and slide on and off with no problem. Where are the exact location of the bushings? Thanks for any help.

The bushings, which should be rolled bushings (split) should go one on top of the spindle housing and one on the bottom. The spindle housing is the tube the spindle fits ito. They are supposed to be "loose" to allow the spindle to turn, but tight in the housing to hold them. There is a ball bearing and race that goes on the bottom of the of each spindle. You'll have to pull out, or drive out, the old spindle bushings in the housing. You can get a socket which just fits the old bushings and drive the one on the bottom up into the housing and the one on top down into the housing, where they can just stay. Unless you want to pull out the old bushings which is more of a job. Then drive the new ones into the spindle housing. Piece of cake.

I replaced my bushings last year on a 48 8N. I used an old chisel to split the bushings and then a long heavy screw driver to drive them out. I then used a socket to tap the new bushings in. They were very tight so I had to ream the bushings alittle to allow the spindle to slip through. They work perfect now. Good luck.
