My 9n has lost power some how. When i put it in 3rd gear it acts like it wants to die before i get going. Its ok in first, second gear.I have changed condenser, points and coil and now it doesn't have the power it once had. When i firts got it The carburator did not have the hose that goes to the air cleaner. My brother only used it to pull his truck out when it got stuck so he never purchased one. I haven't did a compression yet but i get 40-45 on the oil when it is hot. When i juice the carb-governer rod it does fight me back but very little. I hear there is also a hole for the oil. I don't have an oil line hooked up to mine.....do i need to do that? anybody got any pics of what it is supposed to look like.

Adrian..... ...check out the link to yesterdays message board entitled 9N governor pix.

The original 9N governor did NOT have external oil supplied by the oilfilter return line to the back of the governor's cup. They found out that the governor needed more oil than just splash oil from the governor gear oilslinger so Ford re-routed the oilfilter ouput directly to the governor cup.

All replacement governor cups now have provision for direct governor ball oiling and also provision for the sidemount 8N proofmeter drive cable. Iff'n ya donnna haffa proofmeter, ya donnna haffta use the proofmeter drive output. Simple, eh?

This is a good up-grade and it should be intuitively obvious that you have to get a new oilfilter output line to go to the improved governor replacement cup.

As for your "lack of power in 3rd", I'd be more inclined to suspect your ignition centrifical advance/timing. But then again you report that you changed your ignition points, that could be your problem, weak sparkies from ignition points slipping.

You do know that changing the points on your squarecan frontmount distributor is a 2-bolt, 15 minute finnagle, don't you?

Simply unsnap your 4-nipple cap and let it dangle on the sparkie wires, then un-bolt your off-set tang driven distributor and check the points gap (0.015") on the kitchen table. Installation is a reversal of the removal, simply finger install your 2-bolts a couple of turns and then turn your rotor until it falls into the off-set tang; then tighten your distributor bolts.

Iff'n for ennyreason, you might have unplugged your sparkie wires from your distributor cap, check your firing order; 1,2,4,3 CCW. Theses ol'N's are so good they'll run miss-sparkled and you won't know it untill you need power (like starting out in 3rd gear)
That means:
Sparkie #1 is plugged into nipple #1 at 10 o'clock
Sparkie #2 is plugged into nipple #2 at 8 o'clock
So far, so good, eh? Now PAY ATTENTION here because it gitts tricky:
Sparkie #4 is plugged into nipple #3 at 4 o'clock
Sparkie #3 is plugged into nipple #4 at 2 o'clock
Firing order is 1,2,4,3 CCW, isn't that amazing?..... ...Dell, the self-appointed sparkie-meister

Thanks for the pic. I rechecked the points and they were not opening when i turned the rotor. I lossened the the two outside screws and opend the points to .0015. when I reinstalled everything That made a big differance. I'm going to tackle this governor rebuild this weekend. I have one last question. WHere should I " T " the oil line for the govenor.

Adrian..... ....you don't "T" the oilline, you use a NEW oilline exclusively from the bottom (output) of the oilfilter canister direct to the NEW governor cup oil fitting. The governor will leak (?) pass (?) all the oilfilter oil down past the governor drive gears into the oilpan. Understand?..... ...Dell
