Is there any place on the tractor to find the year it was made? I am fixing to do some body work and want to restore it as close as I can to what the 9N looked like. Thanks

Compare your tractor to the year by year descriptions on this site.

There is also a book in print called FORD TRACTOR ORIGINALITY GUIDE (or something similar) that has good info for anyone doing serious, year specific restoration. The book has a few gaps but is a decent source of info.

Well, there are casting codes on some individual pieces that will give you the date they were made.. however, the engine serial number will date the block, and if all oem, the tractor for you. Check the serial number info to the left for the years.

The number is on a 1x4 flat just under the head, on the left side of the engine, aft of the oil filter canister. All 9n and 2n sn's start with 9n.. all 8n sn's start with 8n. All 9n/2n/8n engines were bolt-in compatible.. so it is possible to have mixed features.. like an 8n engine on a 9n.. or a 2n engine in a 9n. For the most part.. the 9n and 2n were identical. Hit the smiths site.. 8nford . com for a detailed list of the changes over the years from 39thru 52
