Simple question for most folks- hard question for simple folk.
Trying to remove starter from 1950 8N serial # 313---. Manual says to "remove 2 cap screws from back of motor" I can"t locate any screws in the back (towards the rear of the tractor)
Could someone give me a clue as to where to look for these cap screws?
Much obliged

The key is the word 'motor' as in refering to the starter.. and not 'engine' as refering to the tractor engine.

The other poster is correct. there are 2 long screws going thru the back of the starter into the bell housing. Don't pull them all the way out.. leave them in, but unthread them enough to jiggle starter free... otherwise the captive brushes will be a bear to get back onto the armature.

The "rear" of the starter faces the front of the tractor. For one reason or other, the commutator end of the starter (oppposite the drive end), is often considered the "rear".

On the end of the starter facing frontwards, you need to loosen the two long bolts that extend the whole length of the starter, and screw into the engine flywheel housing. Then, carfully separate the three sections of the starter as a unit from the flywheel housing, and have a 5/16" NC nut handy to thread on the end of one of the long bolts, to keep the three sections of the starter assembled while you wiggle the starter drive past the flywheel, and out of the tractor.
