Another steering question...

I recently bought a 9N(?) (it has a 4 sp trans) with a loader and back blade. It is a heavy, though narrow, loader. Without the back blase on, the steering is so hard to turn that it sometimes feels locked. With the blade on, it is a little easier, especially if the loader is all the way up, but it is still not very easy to turn. The previous owner removed the 19" wheels and put on what look like car rims. Any thoughts?

Try putting more air in the front tires. My 8N has a Wagner loader and rear blade and is tough to steer especially with a load in the bucket. Greasing the steering box, setting the toe-in, greasing the spindles and all steering joints helped some but putting more air in the 16 inch tires really helped the most. It's still a bear to steer but probably as good as it gets.

Winger..... ....thats right, all the weight of the FrontEnd Loader, makes for heavy steering. Wider automotive type tires keeps the original skinny (4-19) the fronttires from being overloaded and digging into soft dirt.

Some people use heavy rear implements as a counter-weight to the FEL for eazier steering. This can also be accomplished by rigging up a water barrel or concrete box to the rear implement arms.

BTW..... .ONLY 8N's have 4-speed trannys..... .Dell
