Jubilee project update

Well, I hit a snag on the Jubilee project tractor I知 working on. I知 almost ready to re-install the flywheel and started cleaning it up good to see if it needed resurfacing. This is the first time I have actually inspected it real good (it does need a new ring-gear). I t appears that the early Jubilees used a pilot shaft bushing in the flywheel instead of the pilot bearing. The clutch on this tractor was in pieces when I took it apart but the surface of the flywheel look OK at initial first glance. Upon further inspection it looks like the pilot bushing wore out and the pilot shaft wallowed out part of the flywheel hole where the bushing normally goes. The transmission input driveshaft that goes into the pilot bushing looks to be OK.

I suppose this is why Ford changed from the pilot bushing to the pilot bearing in mid production of the 53 Jubilee.

I知 hoping there is enough stock left on the flywheel to have it bored out and a new pilot bearing installed. I guess a worse case scenario would be to have to weld up or braze the wallowed out area and then bore it out to size or either get another flywheel.

Thanks for listening. Rick H. GA.

Look for a ball bearing that fits the pilot shaft, and has a slighly larger OD than the damaged hole in the flywheel. If that doesn't work out, bore the flywheel hole out in the lathe, press in a sleeve, and then finish-bore to size for the replacement bushing,
