I know this probably will sound dumb, but I know nothing about Fords. I would like to know what type motor oil and hydraulic oil does a 8n use. I also need to know the amount it requires. Thank you to anyone that helps me. It is appreciated.

Use GL-1 90 Mineral oil in the back end. NAPA part number 65-205 runs ~26 per 5 gallon.

Wal-mart no longer caries the GL-1 as their supplier stopped making it last year.

Tractor Supply carries Ford Transmission Fluid which is reportedly a GL-3 for around $36 /5gal.

Shell oil makes shell Dentax which is a GL-1 for around $37/5 gal.

Latham Auto Parts, an independent store in southern Ohio has GL-1 for $18.00 5/gal.

You"ll open up a whole can of worms on the type!! I really believe that it"s more personal preference (along with tractor condition) than anything else. I used to use ND-30, before I rebuilt the engine (of my 1950 8N). Now I use 10W-30.

Capacity (with a filter change) should be 6 quarts.

I must"ve overlooked the "hydraulic oil" part of your question. My response covers engine oil. Everybody else has got you straight on hydraulic oil. I buy my GL-1 at Tractor Supply. 5 gallons for ~$40.
