My cork disk has just about disintegrated. Removed the outer rail of the quadrant. Think I can see a key holding it together. Tried WD40 and light tapping to get it to separate. No luck so far. Anyone got any tricks for removal to replace the disc. Thanks in advance.
Charley

Persoanl history is that about 80% of the time when stuck it would end up either breaking or warping. Either way, you have to end up picking up a new one.

Charley,

The prying-with-screwdrivers always worked for me. Just be careful! When you replace the disc, I recommend not using a cork replacement. Find some heavy gasket material (the grey stuff) and make one out of it. It takes a 3" disc with a 5/8" hole. They work and last a lot longer.

Good luck!

Ron

The outer disc is aluminum and you know how aluminum loves to grow itself to steel if left in constant contact too long!

It will take heat usually to make the disc turn loose. If you see tiny bubbles begin to form on the skin of the aluminum disc it is time to stop heating. Aluminum will become molten all at once and then all you got left is a puddle of aluminum.

Have a screw driver lightly driven between the two discs before you heat. Not too much on the screwdriver!!!!!

Careful about prying. I broke mine that way, it's aluminum. I repaired it with JB Weld and repainted it, and it works fine/ looks ok. Steve 8N 169302

WD-40 has it's uses but it's not much of a penetrating oil. Get some good stuff. I really like stuff you get in the WalMart gun cleaning dept or gun shops called BreakFree CLP and I use it on the tractor, guns and fishing reels and anything else needs broke free, cleaned up or lubed. Lots of guys like PB Blaster.
WD-40 is nice to chase moisture away and as a pressure spray solvent for routine cleaning but it is not a knocker-loose.
Seems like a guy can put some pry on that touch control hub, if I remember right. Two screw drivers 180-degrees apart and easy pressure back and forth should get it off.
