When I first start my 50 8n it pegs the oil pressure gauge at 50+ and goes down to 15-20 at warm idle. It has been this way since I bought it 3 yrs. ago. Is this something to be concerned over and any suggestions. Thanks for any help

Does it do it both in Summer and Winter? What weight oil are you using? If it only does it in cold weather and you are using 30w oil, switching to 10-30 in cold weather may be the ticket for you.

Hope this helps..... ..... Ed

It wouldn't surprize me that your oil pressure relief valve is sticking from varnish when cold and that is why you are pressuring over 50 psi. You could blow the cap off your oil filter and barff everything onto the ground and the EPA will get your a$$ for environmental contamination. (grin) I'd remove and clean the ball check and yes, there is supppost to be a flat spot on the ball.

15-20 is reasonable hot oil pressure..... ...Dell

Cold oil is thicker than hot oil and this is normal for the gauge to read higher until the oil thins down once the engine warms up. The 15-20 at idle seems really good.
