Lift arms only lift Half way

Hi Folks,

I hope someone can help me with this problem I have. I have a 1952 8N. When I raise the hydraulics, the lift arms only raise about half way up. I can manually lift them to full height, but they do not lift any load to full height. Is this a problem with the hydraulic piston? Or is there something else I need to look for?

Thanks!

Paul - from Michigan

The Ford lifts all have a thing that rides a cam to tell the lift linkage where the lift arms are in relation to where the touch control handle is. On the 8N this is a pin that rides the cam and is not lubricated so it wears pretty fast compared to other parts on the machine.

The lift cover will have to be removed and the pin replaces. Also the lift will have to be re-adjusted in order to have the position and draft mode correct so that they both operate as designed.

See the link below for information on the adjusting jig and booklet that you will need to do it right the first time.

My first thought is maybe the hydraulic system is low on fluid. I'm sure you checked the dipstick by know. HTH. John,PA
